Pioneer midfielder grabs attention
The 19th ranked University of Denver men’s soccer team received another preseason recognition on Monday, this time on an individual level.
Senior midfielder Jarod Stigall was listed at No. 30 in Top Drawer Soccer’s Preseason Top 100 Upperclassman list.
“This is a nice honor for Jarod, as well as his teammates that have helped him along the way,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “However, Jarod and everyone else on this team is concentrating on working hard and getting better in order to achieve our team goals this season.”
Stigall was on Top Drawer Soccer’s radar in 2010. As a junior, Stigall was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Men’s Team of the Season and to its Men’s Team of the Week on Oct.4. He finished his junior campaign with nine goals, including game-winners against Seattle, San Jose State and Air Force. Along with his eight assists, the midfielder racked up 26 points in the 2010 season.
In his career, Stigall has tallied 17 goals and 12 assists for 46 points. His 17 goals include five game-winners.
The Pioneer men kick off the regular season at CIBER Field at the University of Denver at 7 p.m. Saturday against perennial NCAA powerhouse Creighton. The No. 6 Bluejays hired legendary head coach Elmar Bolowich, who guided North Carolina for 22 years, winning the 2001 NCAA championship and appearing in the College Cup in each of the past three years.
