Mines women dice CCU

The Colorado School of Mines women’s soccer team took command of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference race for the top with a 5-2 victory over Colorado Christian University on Wednesday.

Jessica Stark started the scoring for Mines with a goal in the 24th minute off a corner kick. Megan Woodworth tallied the assist. The two teamed up again two minutes later as Woodworth fed Stark for a 2-0 lead.

Mines made in 3-0 in the 51st minute as Kelsey Neal earned her first career assist on a pass to Erin Onat.

CCU cut the lead to one by scoring back-to-back goals just two minutes apart. Kayla Bearden scored an unassisted goal in the 76th minute. Then Bearden assisted on Abby Larsen’s goal in the 78th minute.

Jelli Schira restored the Mines lead with her first goal of the season in the 80th minute, as Woodworth notched her third assist on the afternoon and fourth of the season.

As Colorado Christian tried to push forward, Mines struck one more time with a goal in the 85th minute. Joanna Graves scored off an assist from Anna Evans.

Penny Rogers made her first career start in goal for Mines and picked up the win making one save.
With the win, the Orediggers improved to 4-1-2 overall, and top the RMAC with a 3-0-0 record. Colorado Christian dropped to 0-7-0, 0-3-0 in the RMAC.
