Western Washington drubs Cougars
After a narrow escape against Metro State on Sunday, the Western Washington Vikings produced a highlight reel of goals against Colorado Christian University 6-0.
Following the tight 2-1 game on Sunday, the Vikings put three goals up in the first half. Forward Gibson Bardsley scored a hat trick and midfielder Darragh Simm had a goal and an assist in the rout.
The Vikings improved to 3-1-1, extending their unbeaten streak to four with three wins and a tie. Colorado Christian fell to 0-4-0.
“We keep playing better and better,” said coach Travis Connell. “That’s what has been most impressive on this road trip, and that’s a good trend.”
Western Washington had a 29-15 lead in shots and an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Vikings’ six goals were the most since scoring six against Saint Martin’s on Nov. 7, 2008. Earlier that same season, the Vikings won 10-0 at Colorado Christian as Samir Vejo scored a school-record six goals.
Colorado Christian opens the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 1 p.m. Friday in Lakewood against Regis University.
