Roadrunners win N.D. pair
Metro State ‘s men peppered the University of Mary goal Friday night in Bismarck, North Dakota, but couldn’t find a goal until 2:41 remained in the second overtime period.
Scott Grode scored for Metro State off a free kick from Steve Emory, giving the Roadrunners the win in the season opener for both teams.
The goal ended a game that was dominated by Metro State as the Roadrunners out-shot the Marauders 37-4. Mary’s goalkeeper seemed to be unbeatable, however, stopping 13 shots before Grode found the back of the net.
Issa Bissau earned the shutout win in his first career start in goal for Metro State, making one save. Emory had a school record 13 shot attempts, topping the previous record of 11.
Sunday Seconds: Metro State cruised to a 2-0 victory over Upper Iowa on Sunday in Bismarck in a non-conference game. The Roadrunners improved to 2-0 this season.
Metro State dominated the game, holding a 24-4 shot advantage.
Dale Johnson put the ‘Runners ahead seconds before the half with a header off a free kick from Jack Belanger. In the 82nd minute, Marc Herschberger added an insurance goal scoring on a cross from Tyler Wilson.
Dominique Griffith earned the win, making one save for the Roadrunners.
