Dynamite blows past Fury 15-8
The Denver Dynamite, playing without player-coach Chris Handsor and Chad Pearson, earned its first win of the PASL-Pro season with a 15-8 victory over in-state rival Fort Collins on Saturday in Denver.
Tony Avery led the Dynamite with four goals, all in the first quarter. The Dynamite jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 5-2 at the end of the quarter.
Josh Fallin scored his two goals for Denver in the second quarter, including one with sixth-tenths of a second left in the half, giving Denver a 10-4 halftime lead.
The Fury was the better team in the third quarter, outscoring the Dynamite 3-1 to close the lead to 11-7 with one quarter to go.
Nate Flemming, who led the Fury with three goals, opened up the fourth quarter with a goal to bring the Fury within striking distance of the Dynamite, down just three goals.
But the rest of the game belonged to the Dynamite, who scored the four final goals, including Jay Hamilton’s and Tony Thomas’ second goals of the night.
Zach Cousins also had two goals for Fort Collins.
The Dynamite improved to 1-4 in the PASL-Pro West Division and retained the Rocky Mountain Cup.
The Dynamite faces the Colorado Springs Cavalry in the opening round of the U.S. Arena Open Cup at 7:30 p.m Saturday at the Denver Bladium.
