Post No. 1: Welcome to ColoradoSoccerNow.com
Hello, everyone, and welcome to ColoradoSoccerNow.com, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of FC Rocky, the soccer blog of the Rocky Mountain News.
We hope to cover soccer in Colorado like no one else, from the college level up to Major League Soccer. And every now and then, there’ll be a treat, like Wednesday’s Mexico-Bolivia game, which doesn’t seem to have any logical tie to the Denver area other than a whole lotta fans of Mexico live here.
I’ll bet one shiny nickel that there are more fans at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday than there were at the U.S. men’s national team’s appearance at the stadium last year.
But I digress.
Although a lot of people were sad about the closure of the Rocky, the circumstances actually might allow me to be at the games more often than when I was working at the newspaper. For instance, I was wrangling for the night off to attend the Mexico-Bolivia game. Now I can just go! How simple is that?
Anyway, we hope you like the site, and we hope you tell all your friends about us. Like everything on the Inter-ma-Web, word of mouth is a precious commodity.
That’s enough PR. On to the futbol!
This looks like it is going to be a great web site. I’ve bookmarked it, and I will come back often.
Here is a topic that you should address on this site: wouldn’t Dick’s Sporting Goods park be so much better if they built a roof covering all the seats? Just look at how great the Home Depot Center is in LA. The main difference between the two stadiums is that one has a roof, and the other one does not.
I’ve heard that constructing a roof over the seats would cost about 5 million dollars. Is that an accurate figure? Yes, of course, that’s a lot of money. But one could argue that a roof would pay for itself over the coming years by improving fan atmosphere, and thereby boosting attendance.
What are the chances that this will happen? Has the Colorado Rapids ownership ever considered building a roof over the seats?
yay! first comment ever! thanks, dave. i’ll ask the rapids.

Nice to see one of the former RMN’ers rising from the ashes. Best luck with the site. Hopefully your existing relationship with the Rapids FO gives you an “in” to report some material the News wouldn’t, the Post won’t, and the other local bloggers can’t.
I’ll be keeping an eye on ya.
-GED Polyglot.
thanks for the kind words, polyglot!
And in response to Dave’s questions about a roof over all of the fan seating at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Rapids say it was never a consideration. They chose to build it like you see it because they wanted to show off Colorado’s weather.
Congratulations George on getting it up and running. Good luck to you!
Great site, maybe I will learn more about the sport. Which won’t be hard to do.
George, glad to see you back in the blog-o-sphere. Already doing a great job.
bonji, glad to see you found us! spread the word, brother!
